AVE - Spain's high-speed railway
The AVE, as they are referred to, are some of the fastest trains in the world. They are the equivalent of the French TGV. Spain's high-speed railways are considered to be among the best in the world. In addition to their speed and comfort, the journey is a real adventure, during which the passenger can admire beautiful landscapes. They reach speeds of up to 320 km/h.
Visiting Spain by train
The route between Madrid and Seville (471 km) is covered in two hours and thirty minutes. The first AVE train started running between Madrid and Barcelona in the early 1990s. The AVE high-speed trains are operated by the Spanish state railway RENFE. Today, the high-speed train connects Spain's most important cities, in terms of economy and tourism: Seville, Malaga, Valencia, Valladolid, Zaragoza, Madrid and Barcelona.
Each AVE train has a buffet serving drinks and snacks. All trains are air-conditioned. Seats are provided on the trains for travellers with reduced mobility.
What are the restrictions on baggage carried? Free of charge: two pieces of large luggage and one piece of hand luggage. The maximum size must not exceed 250 cm (the sum of length, width and height).

Second Class (AVE Turista)
The carriages are equipped with comfortable reclining seats that guarantee a pleasant journey. Adequate legroom ensures a comfortable rest. There is a power socket next to each seat for electronic equipment. It is possible to reserve a seat at a table. Additional space and games are available for families with children.
Second class plus (AVE Preferenete)
In addition to all the comforts that second class offers, passengers additionally have wider seats. They can enjoy a special menu in the dining car or order a meal to their carriage. At train stations, they have the option of lounge areas and free parking (up to 48 h).
First class (AVE Club)
The AVE Club variant is available on some popular routes. This class features leather seats. High-quality meals and wine are included in the ticket price. The train staff will take care of every detail to make your journey in Spain a pleasure. Club carriages are among the most luxurious in the world.
