Cheese Train - a panoramic cheese train journey

Switzerland is a beautiful country with plenty of tourist attractions. The best way to visit it is by panoramic trains, of which there are several. The panoramic trains are designed so that you can comfortably watch the changing landscapes outside the window. The journey on these trains is extremely varied and can be a truly wonderful adventure....

The Swiss are among the world's leading consumers of cheese. Whether mild, spicy, mild or melted, 21 kilograms per person are consumed each year.

Cheese Train

Travellers to Switzerland can discover some of the secrets of this traditional speciality by taking the Cheese Train from Montreux or Zweisimmen to Château-d'Oex via the beautiful Lake Geneva region. It is a rail journey through beautiful landscapes, culinary treats and Alpine culture.

Since 2013, the Cheese Train has allowed you to explore the secrets of Switzerland's most popular dairy product. The Cheese Train is one of Switzerland's most popular attractions in winter. The one-day journey is run by the Montreux-Bernese Oberland Railway every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from the beginning of January until the end of April.

Before boarding the Cheese Train, the staff offer travellers a welcome drink (included in the ticket price). On board, passengers can relax in first class in Pullman's fabulous 'Belle Epoque' carriages and enjoy cheese samples and the beautiful views outside the window. Passengers are accompanied by a guide during the journey.

It's time for a tasting

Upon arrival in Château-d'Oex - a Swiss town located in the canton of Vaud in the Swiss Pre-Alps - travellers are treated to a visit to Le Chalet restaurant, where they can watch a demonstration of traditional cheese-making techniques by skilled workers. At Chateau d'Oex, travellers learn how 200 litres of milk are turned into Le Chalet Bio cheese. After the demonstration, everyone will have the opportunity to taste an original and delicious bio fondue at Le Chalet restaurant.

Museum du Pays d'Enhaut

After this tasty "adventure", you can head to the Museum du Pays d'Enhaut, a real folk museum. Visitors will find a wealth of arts and crafts exhibitions. The museum also delights visitors with its unique collection of exceptional traditional paper cut-outs. This is the final point of this amazing railway journey.
